"Your Guide to Rogaining in NSW"

eNewsletter 58  -  13 December 2013

G'day Rogainers,

Gill’s (President’s) 2013 NSWRA Wrap-up

It’s been another successful year of Rogaining! Whether you stepped up to one of our popular 6 hour events, or tackled our 24 hour Rogaine, I hope you enjoyed the new places explored, were challenged and successful in your navigation with your teammate(s) and excited to find the orange and white markers.

I’d like to thank everyone that has helped out (big or small) with an event this year all hands help! 2014 promises to be another great year of Rogaining, so put the dates in the diary, it will be great to see you at one or all of the events next year.

Our next event is the 6-hour Metrogaine, which will be in Northern Sydney (starting at Thornleigh) and will have a nice mix of trails as Ted Woodley has already set a great course that ventures into Berowra Valley Regional Park. This is a great event to introduce your friends and family to Rogaining. Entries will open soon.

But until then, why not read Julian Ledger’s post on the 2013 events.

Merry Christmas and see you in 2014!

The Woronoragaine, 6hr: 17 Nov 2013

A big THANKS to Gareth Denyer and his team of volunteers for putting on a great event in Loftus. The map had a mix of everything, including some steep hills, flat ridge tops, spectacular look-out points, a high bridge, a low pipeline to crawl under or scramble over and cafés for a mid-way ‘pick-me-up’.

Results are now available here.

Notice of NSWRA Annual General Meeting 2014, 9 February 2014

The annual general meeting of NSWRA will be held in conjunction with the Metrogaine (in Thornleigh) on Sunday February 9th 2014, we will start the AGM at approximately 3:30pm. All office bearer and ordinary committee member positions will be open for election, and nominations for all positions are welcome.

Rogainer of the Year 2013

It’s exciting!  Presentation of the inaugural “Rogainer of the Year” for 2013 will be awarded at the Metrogaine Presentations, on 9 February 2013.

Can you help us at a Rogaine event in 2014?

We are a voluntary organisation and need willing and able volunteers to ensure we can stage our 2014 events. Please have a look at the volunteer calendar page to see where help is needed and contact Ian Dempsey if you can lend a hand.

Volunteering can be a great way to see a course if you can’t make the event, and even practice your navigation skills (setting, vetting, flag hanging or collecting).

We are looking for some helpers for Metrogaine to hang flags on Saturday 8 Feb, and also some on-the-day people to help at registration.

World Rogaining Championships 2016 - Australia

The Australian Rogaining Association won the bid to host the 14th World Rogaining Championships in 2016. These are going to be held just outside Alice Springs. The ARA are looking for all State Associations to contribute to staging this event. NSWRA will nominate for a few roles to manage in the lead-up or during the event. These may include organisation of transport, awards/trophies, merchandise, sponsorship, equipment, catering (there are many more). If you are keen to get involved please contact Gill by 6 January.  Many of these roles will not prevent you from entering the event.
