G'day rogainers,

Hope you are surviving the cold weather! Just before this cold snap set in, about 600 rogainers enjoyed a lovely warm winter’s day at the Paddy Pallin Rogaine – more on this below.  Also in this e-news, information on upcoming events and opportunities to volunteer.

47th Paddy Pallin 6 hour Rogaine – Sunday 20 June 2010

The 2010 Paddy Pallin Rogaine was held at Brisbane Water National Park, at Kariong.  Around 600 people enjoyed a glorious June day out on the course. It was great to see a big contingent of family teams at this event, as well as the usual mix of young and old, walkers and runners, new and familiar faces. The 1st Waitara Scouts put on a splendid meal at the end of the event, and Paddy Pallin provided plentiful goodies which were given out as spot prizes.  The scout camp was a great venue and hopefully we’ll be back here again one day.

On the website ( http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutEvents/Events/10PP/10PP.htm ) you can now see:

Volunteers at events

Have you volunteered at a Rogaine lately?   It’s a great way to meet other rogainers and see what happens behind the scenes, and if you make a significant contribution, it is also a way to earn free entry to your next event.  All our events are run by volunteers and we’re always in need of more helping hands.

Have a look at the volunteers page ( http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutEvents/Workers/Volunteers.htm ) to see which roles need filling.  This year’s Socialgaine course setters have put out a special call – they are looking for anyone interested to do some vetting or to help out at the event on the day.  The event will be in Sydney’s St George area and you can contact Bronwyn and Paul Batten on  bpbatten@optusnet.com.au  if you are interested in lending a hand.

Vacancies on the committee

The NSWRA committee has been short a few hands since the start of this year, and we’ve also just farewelled our equipment officer, Paul Stein, for a stint overseas.  We won’t be able to keep supporting NSWRA events without a healthy committee, therefore we’re looking for anyone who is interested to fill the following roles:

There’s more information about what’s involved on the website:  http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutNSWRA/Committee/CommitteeRoles.htm  or get in touch with Alexa (NSWRA President) on 0409 516 423 / alexamcauley@gmail.com.

Next event: the Lake Macquarie 6/12 hour Rogaine - Saturday 14 August

The next NSW Rogaine is the 18th Annual Lake Macquarie Rogaine, which will be held in the western area of Lake Macquarie in the Watagan Mountains. The location for this year’s event is in the Jilliby State Conservation Area with the hash house about 6 km south west of Morisset and only 60 minutes north of Hornsby. The area is typical of the Watagans with beautiful rainforest, pristine creeks and friendly wildlife.

More information is available on the event web page, where you can enter on-line using your credit card or send in a postal entry. http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutEvents/Events/10LM/10LM.htm

Calendar for 2011

The calendar for 2011 is taking shape – dates for most of our regular events are now listed on the website (http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutEvents/Coming.htm).   At this stage, the most significant question mark lies over the Autumn Rogaine – so far we don’t have anyone lined up to co-ordinate or do course setting for this event.   Please get in touch if you might be interested (usually it’s a 6 and 12 or 24 hour bush event, in mid-April).
