At this annual event teams of participants test their bush and compass navigation abilities in an overnight event through 100 square kms of wilderness terrain a few hours drive from Sydney, Australia. They attempt to navigate to checkpoints throughout the course area on foot both by day and night. There is also an easier one-day event.   For more information;   http://www.bwrs.org.au/?q=navshield-more-info.

BWRS remote first aid

If you are keen to get some first aid skills, with a focus on remote area first aid, then you should check out the courses offered by the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad. Members who have taken part in these course say that they are great. If you have been a major volunteer at a NSWRA event then you can claim $100 towards the cost of a first-aid course - like this one - rather than getting a free event entry!  More info: http://www.bwrs.org.au/?q=remote-area-first-aid

Other coming events:

AROCSport and In2Adventure organise a variety of different adventure racing outdoor challenges:   http://www.arocsport.com.au/

Volunteering

Finally, Rogaining is a volunteer-run sport.   So if you have been enjoying the sport, think about helping out at an upcoming event.   Visit the volunteer page, (http://www.nswrogaining.org/AboutEvents/Workers/Volunteers.htm),   and/or contact our volunteer co-coordinator Ian Dempsey  ( volunteer@nswrogaining.org )  to find something that suits you.   Volunteers who make a major contribution to an event are rewarded by free entry (!) to a NSWRA organised Rogaine, or a contribution to a recognised training course (such as first aid or event management training).
