2025 NSW & Intervarsity Champs -- summary & results
The winning 24hr family team, Craig, Archer, & Violet Mottershead from the ACT
Finally, a rogaine where it didn't rain. A big thanks to all the teams who took part in the 'Werong a mission' NSW 24-hour and national Intervarsity Championships,
especially the 8 intervarsity teams and the 9 other interstate teams (not counting the nearby ACT) containing members from Vic, Tas, SA, Qld & WA, who came so far.
We were lucky to have crisp sunny days and cold clear nights -- ideal weather for a 24-hour rogaine -- and reports are the food was to a very high standard at both the main Hash House as well as the mid-course all-night café.
Tristan White, the organiser and setter, created a traditional 24-hour bush rogaine in a very scenic setting. It was deliberately set in moderately tough terrain with challenging but gratifying navigation
that makes you want to come back for more (when you get it right that is).
And, by the accounts of some of the subsequent Facebook posts,
Tristan succeeded in doing that admirably. David Baldwin described it as "a tough event! Lots of steep hills and slow off the tracks. A challenging course to plan and execute."
The absence of a moon for the first half of the night made things even more interesting. No room for complacency. There's nothing like being out in the bush in pitch blackness to focus the mind on the problem at hand and keeping on going when things get tough.
That's rogaining -- "the sport of thought"!
