G'day Rogainers,

Entries are now open for the ever popular Paddy Pallin Rogaine! Please register here now.

Paddy Pallin 6 Hour Rogaine : 17 June 2012

The 49th Paddy Pallin 6 hour winter rogaine will be on Sunday, 17th June.

The event will be located approximately 4 hours west of Sydney CBD, near Clandulla, 1 hour north of Lithgow. While the drive is further than usual, the route travels through some very spectacular country, and the camping area is huge. We suggest you make it a leisurely weekend by arriving and camping on Saturday night. The rogaine will start at 9:00am on Sunday. You don't even have to cook as the 1st Waitara Scouts will be there to provide you with a hearty evening meal. All you have to do is order and pay for it with your entry.

Rob Vincent has set a fantastic course, the area is predominantly rolling spurs and ridges with some areas cut by meandering creeks, honeycombed by rock outcrops, small canyons and a few waterfalls. A few springs emerge with glassy water ejected from their stony canyon floor. Marvellous views occur from high ridges that plummet to the creek or where rocky pagodas penetrate the forest canopy. Vegetation is open eucalypt forest with very little undergrowth, although some areas of cypress pine exist. Visibility will be very good and progress quicker if navigation is accurate.

2012 Australian Rogaining Championships (South Australia) 5-6 May

A number of teams from NSW headed to the Flinder’s Ranges last weekend to participate in the Australian Rogaining Championships. South Australia put on a great event, in some spectacular country.

Full results are here.

The ACT Rogaining Association Cyclegaine - Sunday 27th May 2012, 09:30 – 3:30pm.

The cycle rogaine travels to the Southern Highlands this year to Wingello State Forest, a popular mountain biking area with lots of singletrack. There's a mix of pine forest and surrounding bush land. Some bits are very flat, other bits aren't.

Foot competitors also welcome.

Entries are open until Sunday 20th May - $55 per adult team member, $45 per concession team member.

Go to http://act.rogaine.asn.au/ to enter.

NSWRA members take it to the ACT

The weekend of the 14-15 April saw the running of the 2012 ACT champs, with a 24-h and an 8-h event on offer. Some top results were recorded by NSWRA members, with Martin and Louise Dearnley, accompanied by Tristan White and Graham Field, taking out the 8-h event (and celebrating their first event win?).

Not to be outdone (well, perhaps slightly outdone), our newly elected president Gill Fowler teamed up with Jess Baker to take second place overall in the 24-h event (and picked up the women's trophy in the process). They beat all of the men's teams on their way too - it took a mixed team to beat them!   Full results are here.

2012 Events

The Lake Macquarie on 18 August:   Bob Gilbert is bringing us another Lake Macquarie, as popular for its Tea and Damper as for the rogaining itself!  This year we return to the regular weekend - no City to Surf clash.

The Spring event on 6-7 October:   Amazingly, Michael Watts is ready to do it all again, and is lining up our Spring event.  We can rely on Michael for an event to please all comers, from the leisurely walkers to the lycra-clad.

The Socialgaine on 18 November:   Martin Dearnley is set to introduce us to the pleasures of the Hawksebury region in what looks like an excellent area for rogaining.  Consider spending the weekend there.

Volunteering

Finally, Rogaining is a volunteer-run sport.   So if you have been enjoying the sport, think about helping out at an upcoming event.

Visit the volunteer page and/or contact our volunteer co-coordinator Ian Dempsey  ( volunteer@nswrogaining.org )  to find something that suits you.   Volunteers who make a major contribution to an event are rewarded by free entry (!) to a NSWRA organised Rogaine, or a contribution to a recognised training course (such as first aid or event management training).
